Durio zibethinus Murray
Tree, 10-20 m tall, originating from the western Malaysia and cultivated extensively in the regions of Southeast Asia. The name "durian" is Indonesian and means" "thorny". The fruit is sold on all the Indochinese markets and even in some European and American groceries. The pulp of the ripe fruit is very appreciated by the Cambodians to whom it has the reputation to be fortifying, oar even aphrodisiac. Too ripe, the fruit releases a smell of garlic that made Americans and European run away. The seeds are edible when they are boiled or roasted. No medical use in Cambodia ; in Malaysia from which the species is native, the leaves and the roots are used in traditional medicine.

ទុរេនជាព្រឹក្ស កំពស់ ១០-២០ម មានកំណើតនៅស្រុកជ្វាខាងលិច គេដាំជាច្រើននៅអាស៊ីផ្នែកអាគ្នេយ៍ ។ ឈ្មោះបារាំង “ durian ” ភាសាឥណ្ឌូណេស៊ី មានន័យថា “ បន្លា ” ។ ផ្លែទុរេនមានលក់ពេញផ្សារឥណ្ឌូចិន និងហាងអាស៊ីខ្លះ នៅអឺរ៉ុប និង អាមេរិក ។ ខ្មែរយើងចូលចិត្តបរិភោគសាច់ទុរនណាស់ អ្នកខ្លះជឿថា ជាផ្លែស្ទួយកម្លាំង និងជាថ្នាំប៉ូវផង ។ ផ្លែទុំជ្រុលមានក្លិនដូចខ្ទឹមស ហេតុនេះពួកអឺរ៉ុប និងអាមេរិកជាច្រើនស្អប់ទុរនណាស់ ។ គ្រាប់ស្ងោ ឬលីងអាចបរិភោគបាន ។ នៅប្រទេសខ្មែរគេមិនដែលយកដើមទុនធ្វើថ្នាំឡើយ តែនៅប្រទេសជា្វជាស្រុកកំណើតព្រឹក្សនេះ គេប្រើស្លឹក និងឬសជា ឱសថ ។
ភាសាបារាំង
Arbre, haut de 10-20 m, originaire de la Malaisie occidentale et cultivée intensivement dans les régions du Sud-Est Asiatique. Le nom « durian » est indonésien et signifie « pourvu d’épines ». Le fruit se trouve en vente sur tous les marchés indochinois et même dans certaines épiceries d’Europe et d’Amérique. La pulpe du fruit mûr est très appréciée des Cambodgiens chez qui elle a la réputation d’être fortifiante voire aphrodisiaque. Trop mûr, le fruit dégage une odeur d’ail ce qui fait fuir Américains et Européens. Les graines sont comestibles quand elles sont bouillies ou grillées. Pas d’usage médical au Cambodge mais en Malaisie dont l’espèce est originaire, les feuilles et les racines sont employées en pharmacopée.
