Pandanus tectorius Sol. ex Parkinson
Tree, 8-14 m tall, of the coastal undergrowth, sandy beaches, edges of mangroves and along the rivers close to the sea of all the coasts of the tropical Ancient World. The leaves supply textiles staples. The seeds are edible. From the pollen and the very nice-smelling floral bracts, a perfume can be made. Mixed in coconut oil, it is used as cosmetic. In traditional medicine, the decoction of roots would be diuretic, tonic and stimulate appetite.

Arbre, haut de 8-14 m, des fourrés littoraux, des plages sableuses, du bord des mangroves et le long des cours d’eau proches de la mer de toutes les côtes maritimes de l’Ancien Monde tropical. Les feuilles fournissent des fibres textiles. Les graines sont comestibles. A partir du pollen et des bractées florales très odorantes, on peut fabriquer un parfum. Ce parfum mélangé à de l’huile de coco sert de cosmétique. En pharmacopée, la décoction des racines serait diurétique, apéritive et tonique.
