Moringa oleifera Lam.
Shrub or small tree, 3-10 m tall, originating from India and Pakistan, introduced into Southeast Asia where it is especially planted as decorative. Young leaves and flowers as well as young fruits are eaten in culinary preparations. The leaves may also be used as fodder. The seed, known under the name of Ben or Ben’s Black gives an edible oil and is used also, in perfumery, to fix the flavors of some flowers. The bark is used, in traditional medicine, to prepare a medicine absorbed by the delivered women as a tonic drink.
