JATROPHA (Euphorbiaceae)
Jatropha curcas L
Shrub, 1-5 m tall, originating from tropical America, cultivated in all the warm regions of the world. In Indochina, it is often planted in hedges because of the speed of his growth. Elsewhere it is used for the reafforestation of bare zones. In traditional medicine, the latex is applied to the wounds to hasten their cure. The leaves are a component of an antiparasitic remedy and against scabies. They are used, in frictions, against rheumatisms. The oil of the seeds is purgative. It is also used for the manufacture of the soap or of grease removers for the sewing machines. Ingested or in friction against the belly of the pregnant women, the oil would be abortive.

Arbuste, haut de 1-5 m, originaire de l’Amérique tropicale, cultivé dans toutes les régions chaudes du monde. En Indochine, il est planté souvent en haies en raison de la rapidité de sa croissance. Ailleurs, on l’emploie pour la reforestation des zones dénudées. En pharmacopée, le latex est appliqué sur les blessures pour hâter leur guérison. Les feuilles entrent dans la composition d’un remède antiparasitaire et contre la gale. Elles sont employées, en frictions, contre les rhumatismes. L’huile des graines est purgative. Elle est également utilisée pour la fabrication du savon ou des dégraissants pour les machines à coudre. Ingérée ou en friction contre l’abdomen des femmes enceintes l’huile serait abortive.
