GMELINA (Verbenaceae)
Gmelina asiatica L.
Climbing shrub, much branched out, with small axillary twigs transformed into thorns, common in the undergrowth of tropical Asia. The ripe fruits are edible. Those candied in sugar are often sold on markets. Leaves and young twigs are rich in sticky mucilages, after their maceration in the water ; they are used as emollient to calm the pains of the micturition in case of gonorrhea. The root is used to treat incontinence.

Arbuste grimpant, très ramifié, à petits rameaux axillaires transformés en épines, commun dans les fourrés de l’Asie tropicale. Les fruits mûrs sont comestibles. Ceux confits dans du sucre sont souvent vendus sur les marchés. Feuilles et jeunes rameaux riches en mucilages visqueux sont utilisés, après leur macération dans l’eau, comme émolliente pour calmer les douleurs de la miction dans le cas de blennorragie. La racine sert à traiter l’incontinence urinaire.
