Couroupita guianensis Aublet
Tree, 6-20 m tall, originating from Western Africa (Guinea), introduced in India and Cambodia where it is cultivated as decorative, because of its flowers arising from the trunk, large (5-10 cms), of yellow-red colour, nice-smelling, and very ornamental. In Cambodia, it is especially plentiful inside monasteries. The monks consider it as a sacred tree : Buddha would have reached enlightening or would have entered the nirvana in the shadow of this tree.

ឈ្មោះឈើជាព្រឹក្សមួយប្រភេទ កំពស់ ៦-២០ម គេនាំពីប្រទេសអាហ្វ្រិកខាងលិច មកដាំក្នុងអាស៊ីក្ដៅ ជារុក្ខជាតិលំអ ។ នៅប្រទេសខ្មែរច្រើនដាំ សាលព្រឹក្ស ក្នុងវត្តអារាម ត្បិតភិក្ខុសង្ឃខ្លះមានជំនឿថាព្រះសិទ្ឋត្ថ-សក្យមុនីគោតមទ្រង់ប្រសូត និងបរិនិពា្វននៅក្រោមដើមនេះ ។ ផ្កាសាលព្រឹក្ស មានទងចេញពីតួដើម មានសម្បុរក្រហមលាយលឿង មានក្លិនក្រអូបល្អណាស់ ។

Arbre, haut de 6-20 m, originaire de l’Afrique occidentale (Guinée) introduite en Inde et au Cambodge où il est cultivé comme ornemental en raison de ses fleurs naissant du tronc, de grande taille (5-10 cm), de couleur jaune rouge, odorantes, et très décoratives. Au Cambodge, il est surtout abondant dans l’enceinte des pagodes. Les bonzes le considèrent comme un arbre sacré : Bouddha aurait trouvé l’illumination ou serait entré au nirvana à l’ombre de cet arbre.
