BRUGUIERA (Rhizophoraceae)
Bruguiera gymnorhiza (L.) Savigny
A 10 to 25 m tall tree, of mangroves and salt water river banks on alluvial sol, on which the tree can produce its adventitious roots. A species of tropical coasts of the world. The wood, reddish with a fine texture, is used for local building: huts, wharfs, fences, fisheries structures. Charcoal is excellent. Barks are used to dye fishing nets and tan skins. Bark decoction is taken against diarrhea.

Arbre, haut de 10-25 m, des mangroves ou des bords de rivière à eau salée sur sol alluvionnaire dans lequel l’arbre peut émettre ses racines adventives, aériennes. Espèce des côtes tropicales du monde. Le bois, rouge à grain fin, est employé pour les constructions locales : paillotes, appontements, clôtures, bâtis de pêcheries. Par carbonisation, il donne un excellent charbon de bois. Les écorces servent à teindre les filets de pêche et à tanner les peaux. Leur décoction est absorbée contre la diarrhée.
