Benincasa hispida (Thunb. ex Murray) Cogn.
Creeping and herbaceous liana cultivated all over the tropical Asia for its edible fruits. The seeds are also eaten fried. Preserved fruits are sold in all markets of the world. In traditional medicine the roots are used for the relief of stomachache. The seeds have the reputation to be against tape worms.

Liane herbacée rampante, cultivée dans toute l’Asie tropicale pour ses fruits alimentaires. Graines consommées grillées ou incorporées aux gâteaux. Les fruits mûrs confits se trouvent en vente dans toutes les epiceries Asiatiques du monde. Les racines s’utilisent en pharmacopée pour combattre les embarras gastriques. Les graines passent pour être taenifuges.
