BARRINGTONIA (Lecythidaceae)
Barringtonia acutangula (L.) Gaertn.
Tree, 4-10m tall growing in moist places, along the rivers in South East Asia. Young leaves eaten in salads with fish sauces. Bark used to poison fish. In local medicine, the bark is said to be efficient against fever, diarrhea, paludism gonorrhea. The root may substitute the quinquina. The fruit pounding and roasted is used to fortifying the gums. The wood is commonly used for making mill to decorticate rice.
